The colonial/postcolonial model has primarily grown out of work done on India. Barlow, editor of positions, has collected a group of essays that examine the discourses of modernity and colonialism that are specific to the East Asian region and suggests that cultural critics have much to learn from a scholarship dedicated to rethinking the synchonicity of colonialism and modernity in that region.
