New in paper (S00) Ok, so I spend a lot of time in Northampton and this book is all about Northampton. It even has a great picture on the cover of Main Street looking back from the Smith College end of town back toward the courthouse. Kidder, of course, is the fellow who wrote Soul of a New Machine and House. Here, he takes on Northampton, Massachusetts, the lifestyle, smalltown, too hip for its own good, "OH NO! NOHO," more than that--a town Kidder shows as an example of a town that works. It may not be your average small town, but my, my. . . it is an interesting place . . . unless maybe you live there. And, not to be outdone, here is what Anne Tyler says, "Tracy Kidder can turn the most unlikely story into a riveting drama." I always knew that Northampton was the place for drama. |
